Citi Foundation and Junior Achievement USA Provide JA Program to 130 Students Tags: Programs
This year 130 students in Jefferson County received the JA Banks in Action® program thanks to a $7,500 grant from the Citi Foundation and Junior Achievement USA®!
Five classes from Atherton, Central and Jeffersontown High Schools explored the banking industry through eight classroom sessions and will complete the course by competing in a JA Banks in Action computer simulation contest. These students experience volunteer-led hands-on activities that teach them valuable skills such as cost-benefit analysis, decision-making and teamwork.
“The Junior Achievement Banks in Action program is such a great program to teach young adults about to enter the world after high school,” Ashley Akers, program volunteer and Citi employee, said. “There are so many great life lessons discussed and taught to prepare them financially and also to understand how a business works. I think a class similar to this should be mandatory for all high school students.”
In 2011-2012 Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana will serve more than 50,000 students throughout 26 counties in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The success of Junior Achievement programs relies heavily on the participation of volunteers and donations from supporters. Volunteers are currently needed for programs so please contact JA at 502-561-KIDS (5437) or visit the website at www.jaky.org
