Students from North Harrison Elementary help customers at the bank in JA BizTown®.

Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana served 1,879 Harrison County students with its financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs this year thanks to a grant from the Harrison County Community Foundation

During the 2011-2012 school year Junior Achievement served more than 54,000 students throughout Kentuckiana. The Harrison County Community Foundation has helped JA reach more Harrison County students each year.

“The generous support from the Harrison County Community Foundation has provided valuable economics and financial literacy programs for these students,” Debra Hoffer, Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana President, said. “We are so appreciative of the foundation’s support in our efforts to serve every student in the region four times in their school career.”

Each Junior Achievement program delivers relevant, hands-on activities that teach students valuable concepts such as entrepreneur, money management and employment. Of the 1,850 students reached in Harrison County, 918 participated in a Junior Achievement volunteer-led, in-school program; more than 26 community volunteers taught 43 classroom programs. These volunteers share their career experiences with students and empower them to own their economic success. The Harrison County in-school programs were led by JA volunteers from various community businesses including First Harrison Bank, Harrison REMC, Quadrant Financial and First Federal Savings Bank.

Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana in a nonprofit organization that aims to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. The success of Junior Achievement programs relies heavily on the participation of volunteers and donations from supporters.
